Erdutski vinogradi (Erdut Wineyards) is the largest winery in Erdut region, located in the centre of the homonymous village. Its history dates back to 18th century, to year 1730 when the old cellar was built. With unforgettable view form peninsula surrounded by Danube, the cellar and the castle, Erdut and the winery are a real lure for visitors.
The company owns 513 hectares of vineyards and the plantation vineyard of 490 hectares is the largest in Croatia. The most common variety is graševina, grown on 280 hectares. They also grow chardonnay, pinot gris, traminer, riesling, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, frankovka, pinot noir and zweigelt.
The winery in its current shape was built between 1980 and 1984. The management wanted to honour the end of construction with the significant symbol for the region, so they've ordered a gigantic wooden barrel. It was finished in 1989, has a volume of 75,000 litres, it was made from 109 Slavonian oak trees and it always contains graševina. It is the largest wooden barrel in the world that is in constant use.
